10 GAMES YOU CAN PLAY ONLINE WITH FRIENDS

By Support Team May 08, 2020

Most of us are slipping into social isolation for at least a few weeks. While some of us have discovered the cathartic of loneliness, some are starving for social contact. It can be hard to think of new things to chat about when all of the days have been pretty much the same. Games can be a great way to communicate with friends and family, but sometimes it's hard to find out which games will function remotely for groups, particularly if not everyone has the same console or one at all. Within this article we have put together a list of games that you can play from a phone or PC remotely, which are (almost) all free.

1. QUIPLASH

Quiplash isn't free (around $5) but worth it! Similar to Apples to Apples in principle, each participant receives a request on their phone to which they can have a clever response. Then each vote on their favorite reactions to the different prompts. The results are rather funny! If you're not sure how to play anyway, no worries! The game just asks you what to do.

To make this simpler for a remote party, I would suggest sharing your screen on Zoom, Google Hangouts, or some other conference call app with the person who owns the game and then turning the game volume down in settings so that you can still speak to each other while you're playing.

2. BOARD GAME ARENA

This is not a game by itself, but it's a website with a bunch of online board games versions that you can play for free after setting up an account. A lot of the collection is very obscure, other than chess and checkers, but it is worth checking out to see if there is anything that intrigues you. You can play against the machine on your own, or with friends who have set up an account.

3. PSYCH!

Psych is a wonderful free game all of you can play on your tablets. It's similar to Quiplash in that you're trying to come up with clever solutions, except this time the questions are about your party members! Get ready for the ensuing hilarity!

4. WORDS WITH FRIENDS 2

This Scrabble app-based version is fun, and totally free! It allows only 2 people per game but at the same time you can have several games happening. It's the best way to develop word forms in any one of us.

5. MARIO KART TOUR

This game based on the app lets you play Mario Kart on your phone with your buddies. The basic game is free, but some features are locked (about $5) behind a subscription fee. Don't let social distance keep you from shelling your friends in purple!

6. HEADS UP!

Heads Up, made popular on the show Ellen DeGeneres, is a classic guess the game of words. It's a free game you'll be playing on your phone. One person is keeping the phone up to their head and everybody else is trying to help guess the word for that person. You can break into teams, or even play with only 2 men. To play with friends online, use the Zoom, Google Hangouts, or some other conference call app.

7. DRAWFUL 2

From Quiplash makers, Drawful 2 is a funny pictionary take on. Each participant is given a prompt to try drawing. Everybody else then has to guess what you drew. The results are really funny. Play this one loosely much as Quiplash would have you. Let the person who owns the game share their screen through Zoom, Google Hangouts, etc. (usually around $10 but they're having a sale right now where a lot of the platforms are free), and then everyone takes part from their phone.

8. FORTNITE

If you haven't heard about this game, you have probably lived under a rock. This incredibly famous royal combat game is free to play on your console or PC. Gather some mates and see who's the last to stand. If you're getting really good at it you may be able to cash in. The last kid to win World Cup Fortnite walked away with $3 million. And Mom said playing games are a time-waste.

9. CALL OF DUTY: WARZONE

Finally the classic first-person shooter franchise has a free PC version. The game has a huge single map and has two separate modes: Loot and Battle Royale. You can have 150 people playing with friends in games. All the enjoyable Call of Duty classic for $0.

10. UNO

The free app helps you to play classic card game with friends from your computer. You can play classic games, set your own rules of the game, or play a 2v2 mode in which you play as teams. This is a classic game that is easy to play, and perfect for any family member.
